Lost Summer Photo Book
‘Lost Summer’ photo book design for award-winning photographer Alys Tomlinson – a portrait project undertaken during the pandemic featuring teenagers who had been forced to miss their end of year proms & celebrations. Each participant is photographed wearing the outfit they would have worn, and in their own gardens or local public spaces. The series won the 2020 Taylor Wessing Portrait Prize at the National Portrait Gallery.
The cover uses a clear foil to represent the faded events. The book layout is simple and refined, beginning with a Walt Whitman poem and ending with a new work by one of the teenagers featured. It shows the teens both with positivity and dignity during difficult times.
